My Review of Chelsea!

Hmmmmmmm...where do I begin?

A friend of ours, helped me out. (Perk of owning a Peter Criss fan site I guess).

Anyway....I have heard the Wicked Lester album and have that stuff on DVD too. I dont think I have all of it, just the stuff that was on the massive KISS CD that came out years ago.

Anyway....what struck me the most about Chelsea is how similar sounding this band is to Wicked Lester.

Now I like to think that I understand late 60's early 70's rock. I have some experience in playing that music in my past. And so maybe it's production values. Maybe it's because they are from the same city.

The New York rock scene was kinda still under the influence of the flower child, hippy movement with music like, Godspell, The Beatles, and many others. So maybe that's why. I dont know. What I do know is how wild it was to listen to this stuff and think , man, this stuff sounds kinda of like WL.

As far as the songs themselves go. I havent had the chance to listen to the album enough to offer a song by song critique. Suffice it to say that there are some decent strong tunes on it and some that well, would make my dog ill.

Pete's drumming was solid though.

All in all I would rate it a B-.

Do ya like it so far? I like more the more I listen to it.. It's really kind of hard to believe with the Wicked Lester stuff and the Chelsea stuff that KISS ended up sounding the way they did..

I have never liked Rollin' Along that well.. I like the slower songs on the album.. Polly Von, Let's Call It A Day, and somewhat All-American Boy..

Peter and his old bands are always at the top of my list of things to collect.. If anywone knows where I can get good full songs from anything he did earlier than Chelsea PLEASE let me know!!

Or anything he has done other than KISS or his solo stuff since..

Peter, Paul and Mary's version of Polly Von wipes the floor with this one, but you really can't beat them at folk. Now I wonder what a PP&M version of Black Diamond would sound like.
